New 1819cc V-Twin Engine Revealed by Indian

Indian, the historic American motorcycle firm has shown off its first completely new engine in 70 years, part of its rebirth of the name under the huge Polaris Industries.

The V-twin is called the ‘Thunder Stroke 111’ and was shown off in Florida, America on Friday at the Daytona bike Week event. The new 49 degree engine being shown ahead of the launch of a completely new bike sometime in 2012 before it will go sale in 2014.

The engine has undergone over a million miles of testing both on the road and on the dyno claims Polaris. It will be built in America and it will be in full production later this year.

112 years the firm has been in existence and Indian claims it has looked over all of the historic bikes to make sure the engine pays homage to the history of the firm but modern enough for years to come in the future.

With history in mind, Indian have stuck to engineering themes from older Indians.
